Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

OMG! Broody Naima came off the nest and out of the coop. Laid down a MASSIVE strip and pile to kill another patch of grass and straight back to her eggs. She is REALLY acting like there is about to be action!!!

if she will drink Johnn, try putting some ACV in her water. 2 tab. to 1 gal. it is a great tonic.

She has ACV in her water anyways, lets hope i can save the hen and the eggs!

Today is day 7. This morning at 6 am she was off the nest and there was a pinch-sitter on the eggs while Henrietta "freshened up" and got some nurishment.
She got off the nest again at her usual early afternoon time to eat and dust bathe.

They MUST feel/hear what is going on in those eggs by day 15. I sat in the coop for a bit this afternoon (covered with Ameraucanas). Miss Naima would purr and coo and then all of a sudden stand up like she had been struck with a hot poker. She would look between her legs. Inspect the eggs briefly. Her voice would change. And then she'd sit again. Fascinating to watch.

Water has been lowered to chick level. Miss Naima is sipping at it like it's fine wine. I really must get video ... <sigh>

. A black Sumatra on 5 or 6 eggs. Unfortunately she has a nest behind one of my lathes in my shop.

Sumatra's. 2 blue hens sitting and 1 black hen just sat today.

Wow lucky! Sumatras are one of my favorite breeds! The ones I had weren't very hardy for me in the cold weather here :/ Are your chicks going to be Sumatra too?
