Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Put them under my girls last night at around 6:00 Pm
She took all twelve eggs LOL, hesitated on the blue eggs but she took all twelve eggs. Here she is shoving them under as I hand them to her. I put a blue silicon mat under the litter so they had a better chance of not breaking.

I have American Gam bantams and bantam Asil and they are constantly going broody... A little hint about getting hens to go broody feed them a little hole corn for a few days if they are wanting to go broody they will... The golf balls are a big help as well..

Thank you John :)

I have no problem having broodys lol, this girl goes broody every other month. she had chicks in april, and then she went broody after 5 weeks, I broke it, then 2 weeks later broody again. might as well let her have a mess of chicks, she is a wonderful mama !

im so mad my duck just got killed last night from a coyote and my male duck doesn't even know what to do hes just sitting there hiding and not moving around just sitting and making little noise .... first my chick gets killed by a bird now my duck i hate wild animals

So sorry to hear about your loss. We lost one of our ducks to a raccoon that grabbed her through the fence. It's traumatic to you and the remaining birds as well. Hope all goes well for you.

We have chicks!!

Our broody hen has finally seen the fruits of her endeavor... we have one little chickie peeping out from under momma this morning. She is sitting on a clutch of 9 eggs, so there should be more when we go back out tonight to shut them all up. It has been a LONG 21 days.. I am so happy it is having a happy ending!!!

Eggs were received from shipping and set under our broody on August 15th @ 12:30am =
One hatched successfully today! :) at a quick glance looked like a boy :p
One didn't hatch successfully :( looked smashed/squished.
One egg left to hatch - the biggest darker brown egg -crossing fingers-
