Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

Miss P is pretty grump this morning and seems she wants to take her lil ones out. We are going camping thursday so I'm preparing a dog crate for her and the lil ones this am. As my mom is taking care of the birds while we are away...and I want to make it easy for her.

Yes my avatar is a gypsy wagon/Vardo camper I built early this summer.

stony that is the coolest camper/gypsy wagon I have ever seen, I bet ya'll get a lot of horn honks when you take it out on your camping trip. Love to see the inside..

Great pics, they are so precious and mom looks to be doing a great job.. Have the rest met them yet?

No we actually got rid of all our chickens & ducks. My daughter started BMX racing & it quickly took over our lives. We had no time for the chickens or ducks we also came home late all the time.Next season we will be traveling alot sometimes we will be gone all weekend. Since we have a really bad coon problem here, we just decided to take all of them to DH sisters house. Someone is always home there they are in a good place & we get to see them when ever we want. Mama duck is also leaving along with her ducklings sometime this week. We already have her "private" cottage set up lmao...

Sorry to hear your giving up your flocks but understand how busy it can get when you still have kids at home, maybe another time. Glad your dh's sis was willing to take them in so you can visit them.

in the pics with her bill open she is hissing at me

2 more eggs in the bator. She had to get up to take care of these 3. If they hatch she gets them right back

So Stony, you take her eggs, incubate them, then give her the ducklings? How do you keep her broody if you take her eggs?

& the hissing pics! LOL Mine do that too!

she has sat for 31 days. She is done sitting. She spent the morning trying to get her lil ones off of the nest. I am incubating eggs she was going to abandon. I do this with my chickens as well. Incubate what they leave for a few days. If any more hatch they get them back to raise. Miss Penelope is still broody but is in mothering mode and no longer in sitting mode. She needs to raise these lil ones !
