Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

I'm concerned.

Just found another egg that Delilah removed from the nest.
It was busted open like the one she removed before.

My concern is that part of the egg that she busted opened to remove is still laying in the nest with the 9 remaining eggs.
I'm afraid this is a bad sign that she left part in the nest. I'm worried this means the 9 remaining are no good.

She's also been off the nest for a couple of hours now. It is in the 90's today, but usually she covers the eggs.
She's left them uncovered with part of the broken egg left in nest.

Ideas?

Thoughts? Ideas? Emotional outbursts?

She finally did come back to remove the remaining part of broken egg that was in the nest, but she's left again for now.

Blondiega1, I know so little about this stuff. I have a few runners sitting on unfertilized eggs, just to let them cycle through. Most of my runners don't go broody, but these three - and now Romy - seem to want to sit.

Anyway, I have had to clean up the nest after an egg got cracked. I did not know if they would accept the new nest - I did my best to meet duck standards when I rebuilt it.

Apparently I did a good enough job putting a new nest in with a couple of good eggs in it. They sit two to a nest around here. Sechs and Elfie in one, Romy and Fünf in another.

If it were me, I would nose around that nest and examine the remaining eggs. But I am a big buttinski when it comes to that sort of thing.

Thanks for responding. Miss Lydia has been so kind and helpful too.
As soon as my husband is home to help, we are going to remove and candle.
Hopefully all is not lost.
I knew from the start with a first time things can and do happen.
Nature has her ways nd her reasons....but I am going to be so sad if the news is not good.

When DH returns, if mom starts sitting again I don't think I'd make her get off. You did get any ickies out, right?
Not yet.
I can't get to it where it's located.
Going to have to get my stepson or DH to help.

As soon as possible, we will clean up the nest, candle and replace any that look good.
If she comes back and starts sitting on her own, then we will leave it be and let mom handle it.

Fingers crossed, but my gut is telling me this may not be good news.

Edited to add: it's over 90 here today. Hope they are okay until I can get to them.

Hi have been wondering about you and mama, and today when I'm gone most of the day things happen, Can you tell what the inside of the egg looks like?

It was just yellow yolk.
No sign of any blood or embryo.
She just came back for a quick minute and removed something else from the nest but I couldn't tell what it was.

I'm off work (I work from home) in 10 minutes and I'll go scoop the situation out.

SHE'S BACK!!!!
I saw her come back briefly to remove something, I couldn't tell what from the nest.
I believe she removed the rest of the "ick" from the egg that busted.
I went to give her fresh food and water and she was sitting there as pretty as you please!
3 days to go!! (my heart may not be able to take it!)
