Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

Did you see the egg chart I gave you? it will help you determine how far along ducklings are, glad she's back and hopefully no more snakes.

Yes, I did thank you. Looks like they are right around where I thought they were 10-12 days. First time I saw her sitting was Tuesday September 3rd, but I gave her a day or two because I hadn't been to check on her nest Sunday or Monday. They look right on target with the chart. I just hope that there are no more snakes and her being off for a period of time didn't mess anything up.

The eggs are probably fine if your temps are as warm as you say. Keep us updated..

But hey if it helps my little babies I'm all for it

And hopefully when the ducklings begin to hatch all snakes have gone up for the winter, they love duckling too as I found out the hard way.

Yes I hope so too! That was the first snake we've seen here ALL summer, go figure. We live on a farm surrounded by fields so I figured they would be here all summer with the ducks showing up.

Can I just say how nerve racking it is trying to hatch eggs. This is our first experience every with ducks and we've only had them since the end of March. Now we wait until beginning of October for our first hatch! I keep checking on Mama after our incident with the snake. She is still sitting but seems a lot more on edge (who wouldn't be). I put fresh food and water near her yesterday and she was breathing really hard and stared puffing up at me. We are getting ready to construct our barrier for when the babies get here. I'm getting excited!!! I'm more excited to see what kind of ducklings we'll have if they'll be true mallards or if they'll be mallard-pekin hybrids.

What ever they will be they will be adorable Pekins mixed with any other breed make the cutest ducklings. Not only does she have to watch for snakes but other preds if there is a way into her. Hopefully the barrier your talking about will protect her while she is sitting. I wish you the best.
