Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

My runner girl had made a nest with quite a few eggs so we marked them and started taking the fresh ones out as she laid. We incubated 8 but one was a double yolker so 7 are doing awesome and on day 17 in the incubator. She was only sitting on the nest in the morning and then just stopped all together. She's my first runner girl & everyone keeps saying oh they never set & hatch their own eggs, not even if they make a nest. Well she made a second nest with 14 eggs more secluded this time and has been sitting on it for 12hrs without a break that I've seen, so if she has taken one it was a short one. My question how many of you all have had your runner sit and hatch her own ducklings??

Zero runner experience but good luck, anyways!

Well nothing happened yesterday... major sigh lol BUT dusty was sat tight and i mean tight, tighter than i have seen... we got the door all made for the stall and have the brooder bulb bought so WE are set to go.

No clue about today, pouring rain and then supposed to change to snow tomorrow and drop.. we've been plus temps for the last few days, how nice of it not to hold.. but the barn is cozy and the light & mama should be enough.. i just hope they come now before Thursday's drop.

I don't know if winter hatches tend to run longer? i mean being a 'scovie they are already longer but i mean longer than the longer lol

ugh, i'm getting nervous i just want to know where we stand.

mine hatched about three days late. Maybe it is a winter thing. I was just thinking Taffy took over-long breaks. It sure wears on the nerves though.

We have 3 welsh harlequin ducks & 2 drakes, have had eggs since november, but all of a sudden the eggs are coming fast.
We are considering letting a duck brood some eggs, and have built a nice nest box inside the coop. This is our first year with ducks, and is there
anything we need to do to help a duck along so she might become broody, and have a successful hatch?

I am going to try to show all my Duck Friends a picture of my sweet Old Ladies! Honestly I can't really rell them apart, but they are great pals and Old Lady#1 was sitting first and then she gave Old Lady#2 a few eggs to sit on too. So we shall see how this hatch goes. These Old Ladies move the eggs all the time, one day #1's eggs will be on the left, the next day #2's eggs will be there. I haven;t really tried to mark the eggs, but as far as i can tell they are not trading the eggs between the 2 nests. Or the 2 nests are close enough they just count as one. Anyway, by my calculations, I expect hatch in 8 days!
