,I would love to see that. well on second thought maybe I wouldn't. by the time your girl has all the eggs she wants to sit on and then hatches there will be enough scovy's to fill up the whole house.

With my luck she will start sitting on 30 eggs watch. I am gonna become the egg bandit

I think we are on 15 eggs atm

was it? fertile? They seem to like things large, large clutches, large drakes large earth worms, you get the picture.

Is this a typical molting time for ducks? I have WH and was hoping for natural brooding this spring, but so far everyone has been investing in new feathers, and egg production is down to one a day from 5 ladies. Did I do something wrong, maybe with artificial lighting, to throw off their cycles, or do we still have time to finish up molting, start laying, and go broody?

I'd say you still have time but artificial lighting is most likely your culprit.

i think i might have a problem tilly my saxony is getting off the nest walking around the barn freaking out his quacking it took her for ever to get back on the eggs what is she doing ??

i lives like 15 mins away from where the fire was so im okay i don't know if its still going or not but i hope its out

I'm so glad to hear that you're doing okay. Sad about your friend. :(

Everyone's posted such beautiful birds. What an exciting time of year!

Right now, we have Seelie, our single Buff Orpington and only broody gal, laying on a nest of three eggs. She's been laying on a Muscovy egg for a couple weeks now and recently an Ancona, Blinky, has added a couple eggs.

I've marked all three and will collect anything added from here on out. I'm thinking of moving the new eggs back to Blinky's usual nesting spot.

She is SO pretty!!

Totally normal! She's just doing her thing. Stretching her wings. Warning everyone that she means business! As long as the time off the eggs isn't increasing as the days progress, I think you're fine.

And my girls!!

There is a nest down this hole

I don't know what she's thinking nest below the shed...

Crazy girl. Has a clutch of 15 that are 6 weeks old, and she's already gone broody again. She's the one with the nest under the shed (above pics)

She's so pretty though. :)

could there be a pred around?
well i think there are rats in the barn not many but i think there are some but could a duck handle a rat ?? that the only thing because the drakes stay in the barn and they don't flip or anything just her and i don't know what she was doing because this is my first broody duck ... there are now 17 eggs under her when she was up i went in and checked is she still laying when she is broody i never heard of a chicken doing this but can a duck do this??
