Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

Im about to get rid of all my chickens

Why?

my ducks live with my chickens and my chickens raise their chicks with the ducks and other chickens around and this is my first broody so i will see how that turns out .. i guess i was wrong she did lay one more so there are 20 eggs and she covers them all i was surprised she could keep them all under her .. i know for sure that i have rats because i left an egg out in a nest for my hens to lay there and now the egg is gone and its not broken in the barn so a rat must have took it and i think a rat was bugging my broody duck for her eggs because now she faces the walls where it looks like rats come in so im guessing she knows and she will attack them then because she attacks my big hens and roosters if they go in her stall ...

What a sweet pic. glad she is settled. I've got one more move for my broody, when hatch starts I will put her into the lil coop so she can have even more privacy and a little fenced in area just for her and babies. Around 15-17 more days for my girl.

Ok. A couple of questions (shocker i know LOL) but should I move my girl? she seems very settled right now and I dont want to disturb. Why do you move them? And candling....she wouldn't let me in yesterday so I will wait. If I get rotten eggs, will they harm the viable ones? My profile says I just hatched and I don't know where that came from? How do I fix it? LOL.....man....questions questions questions. This is just so much fun and I am completely obsessed over these eggs!! I have decided to leave them alone as I looked up the link you sent me about candling along with a few other sites and I think I may have thrown out a good egg and I am just dying over it. :(

Rob says Lisa...just let nature take it's course and leave them alone!!

im pretty much doing line breeding i let them breed sit on the eggs and let nature take its course ... wait until the female duck leaves the nest to out and stretch her wings and go out and have a broody poop so when she does check them ... im just waiting until they hatch and yes a rotten egg can hurt the others if it breaks open

Ok I would only move her if you HAVE to move her. I moved mine because the chickens would not leave her alone & they got into a huge bloody fight. So if she's not in any danger of a predator getting to her or persistent bugging I would leaver her.

You can't change your profile saying it just automatically does it I think it depends on how many posts you make.

I am also completely obsessed with these eggs - maybe you & I can obsess over them together!!!! This will be so much fun
