Well, she did exactly what I thought she would... stomped the last egg into a pulp. Baby had no chance.

Here's a first peek.

This was her first clutch, so I wasn't sure how it would go...but she was spot-on the 37 days. This first one hatched out either last night or early this morning. Now I'm waiting on the other 2 eggs to see if we get them too! My boys are going to be thrilled!

It's funny. If I didn't see anything by this afternoon...I was gonna candle. Good girl!

Hi everyone,
Sorry I've been away for a while. I will once again have to play catch up with this thread.

On my end, we have lost a few ducklings to an unidentified predator. We were closing the duck house at night to protect them, but it turns out there was a litle gap by the door big enough for the ducklings to get out, but not the ducks. So the ducklings kept getting out early and wandering outside without their mom. Some ducklings just vanished. I don't know what took them. Now we just leave the door open, and no more problem.

Unfortunately, two of our females have abandoned their nests because they prefered to help take care of the ducklings already born. I guess in the future we might have to provide more spaces for nesting out of the way. Or maybe it's just their lack of experience. We then had rats stealing the unguarded eggs. On the other hand, that means our ducklings have three moms looking after them.

Our oldest duckling (only surviving of his batch) got injured again but he made it through... again. He is still handicaped (can't use one of his legs) but he keeps surviving and follows the other ducklings as much as he can.

On the bright side, one of the duck who was nesting outside the duck house has just had her babies yesterday. I think there are 10 of them. Today we will have to help them out of the nest because they can't get out by themselves.
