Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

So she is fighting with one of the mamas that has the 2 new ducklings? hormones make them act very weird. can you put her back where is was sitting prior to this move except keep her in the crate or is this where the fighting through the crate was happening, if she is in same area as mama ducks and ducklings it won't work. I have to keep my broody's separate from the other ducks. Seclusion is best .
I think Rob set her back in the original spot in the crate. And this would be out in the big coop with the mommas and the babies. They've all been co-existing, I just had the 2 momma's laying secluded by chicken wiring off a corner of the big coop. That is where they had laid the eggs so that is where I kept them. Just released out to the big coop entirely last night. So they've always seen each other and until Daisy went broody she would lay outside of the secluded chicken wire area so she could visit. Now we have complete crazy in their attitudes.

The days are very nice and warm.....but the nights still get cool. Much to my delight, because I have a heck of a time sleeping in the warm nights! I guess I will candle tonight to see if we have any left in there....pray for good news!!

Eden I see your still stuttering.
*sigh* off and on. I get excited when I don't, and then it starts again!
I just try to cut back and only say what bears being said twice!

Hi all. DDM, wow you've got a situation. I think i might just keep her crated. do cover the crate, i think that should help. I haven't really been on this thread because in our Dear Miss Lydia's words: I am practicing birth control here! =collecting daily and not allowing anyone to sit now. I've broken 2 Broodies and still have 2 Drakelets and 2 Pekins to find homes for. But I can't wait to try it again, when I do I will have 1 runner & 1 KC drake in the flock. Congrats JW on your chocolates. Pics please?

I'm looking for some urgent input and don't know where else to ask this question....hope you don't mind! I have several ducks very close to hatch date...I can only tell because of the look of things when I candle...not because I know the actual time frame! anyway one of the very full eggs had a sorta foul odor but not exactly full rotten...I opened the air end so I could be sure if it's a loss but I really still can't tell...NO movement the yolk isn't fully absorbed there is blood but not bright red...what do you think...if the little duckling is alive do you think the shell being open will kill it? I wrapped it in a damp paper towel and put it back in the incubator...the membrane is intact

If there is a foul smell most likely the duckling has passed. when you candle do you see any movement at all?
