Old favorite hen acting odd and smells terrible!

That was after he second bath. I think she had 5 or 6 baths total. I got her inside in a crate she's acting very cold. Extremely exhausted too. I think they are off. I honestly don't know how this all got passed me, im very disappointed for not checking. It was like out of nowhere. Bam she's sick just like that. I hope she's feeling better in the morning im so worried. I feel horrible for her. I've never dealt with fly strike before.
Just wanted to say I’m sorry and I’m following along! Praying it all works out for your sweet girl! ❤️

Poor girl, it does come as a surprise sometimes. At least you caught it.

Do you have a hair dryer? After her bath you can use that.
I want to emphasize that the maggots need to be completely off.
When they are, let her be with the wound cleaned and treated.
Give her some electrolytes or sugar water to treat for shock.
@azygous any other recommendations?

I dont see any but they seem to pop out of no where. She's got a warm towel around her right now. She's just so exhausted, but she became fully alert when I opened up her cage. Poor sweet girl. I cleaned it really good. She's had boiled eggs this morning and a little bit of scratch grains. Those are her favorite things to eat. Oh yes She's had electrolytes too.

I agree, the maggots need to go, but it sounds like she's in shock as well.

Get her warmed a bit and get some electrolytes or sugar water into her.

You can apply some Swat to help kill off the maggots if you can find it. They will destroy healthy tissue and may have already breached the abdominal cavity, hard to know.

Trim feathers away from the wound and pick off the maggots that emerge.

I'm so sorry about your hen, it must be heartbreaking.:hugs
Hopefully she'll hang in there for you.
