Old favorite hen acting odd and smells terrible!

Just read through this entire thread. Great job with your manly girl! Huge kudos to you for sticking with it and hanging in there. Some great advice in this thread. I will be bookmarking as a reference for any future flystrike threads.

I too would continue to treat the wound as you have been until she is healed up. If you return her outside too early, she could get flystrike again in the open wound.

Looking forward to future updates!

I agree with @Wyorp Rock - keep watching that wound for any sign of infection, keep it clean, keep her separate from everyone else for her own safety. But I’d say you did a FANTASTIC job nursing that girl back to health and quite literally rescued her from death’s doorstep. Good job!
Thank you so much!!! Yeah the next day after I found the infestation she was hardly responsive. So I think I literally did save her from death. I know im not in the clear as of yet. But I was reading most chickens die pretty fast with flystrike. So maybe I am in the clear I pray so 🙏🏼 it was extremely difficult on me I aint gonna lie lol the non stop gagging and (vomited a few times) was horrible! I appreciate your encouraging words it keeps me going. Only if you knew!!! ❤❤❤

Lol she is pretty manly that made me laugh! Thank you so so much! Oh yeah she's been in her hospital crate un the house ever since. My poor rooster is stressed to the max her being out of his sight. It's getting hard and scabby her wound so maybe since the maggots are gone I can apply ointment?

Poor guy! Yes, keep ointment on it. You don't want it to dry out.
