Six years ago one of the other farmers here ran out of chickens , some predatory issues did not leave any of us alone , some even decided to skip the year in lifestock !
(mostly chickens ofcourse ) Now one of the good old farmers started selling some eggs he just had been keeping in the barn on the floor , guess what everyone else used to say about that ?
indeed , no one liked to buy these so called fertile eggs due the age , they were older than a month ! So all the farmers , exept ONE said ' dude you know that is just a waste , should have done it with your incubator , now it is too late , it even has been freezing a little bit few nights , those eggs are worthless " I remember that one old farmer very well , he was so desperate and decided to get the eggs and incubate them , you never believe what happened ! Indeed they hatched but not without issues !
two chicks were misformed , a few had to be helped to get out of their shells and they were so tiny ! but few months later ?
those chicks were the strongest I have ever seen , they didn't even need a heatlamp ! reason why is because they got used to temperature deflecting a lot , weak was their start but with some care ( I still have no idea about because this farmer doesn't want to ' talk about it ' ) they turned out to be very strong chickens .

So now I got a question about older eggs ( even the ones from last year ) ,
some farmers have collected old clutches of eggs they didn't discover before and I believed they were gonna get tossed out , but now the opposite seems to be ??? how come they are still using old eggs ?? this can never be a chick right ?

I myself now have a few 'older eggs ' I was going to toss out , they are about a month , some less , like a week or three or so , these are now the only ones I have that should be fertile ( my roo is gone for a while now ) so I wanted to know what those farmers secrets are to get old eggs hatch ? or do they secretly switch the eggs ?
Is it still an option to put eggs from about a month or so under your broodys? Do I need to be prepared for misformings ??
are they anyway just ' possibly ' gonna hatch ?
I know it is said that eggs shouldn't be older than x time yet I still like to know how it can be with older eggs ...
Anyone else having experience with this ?

Older eggs have, for the most part, limited success. The probability of viability decreases with age, but there are still some that will developed. Barnyard mixes seem to be the hardiest. Hatch rates generally drop with the age of the eggs.
