Old flock had fowl pox now I have chicks

Help. I had a flock of birds that came down with fowl pox. The flock is healing nicely and moving back to their original owners, I was housing them for a year. The problem is I let the chickens free range at my place and live in my coop, so my property is most likely contaminated. I have 4 week old chicks that I want to keep healthy. What precautions should I take to treat my property and my wood coop. Thanks in advance

Welcome to BYC. Where do you live, and is it warm weather or cold now? Pox virus can slowly go through a flock, and after the birds have healed or leave, the pox virus may linger in the environment for months, and in one link i just read, it said that it could persist for years in hot debris. Thank you for the info! I live in WA state. It's currently snowing. Not sure if the cold weather makes a difference

With the cold temps, then I would worry much less about it spreading to the new chicks then. I had never thought that pox could spread if mosquitoes were not around in cold weather before, but someone else mentioned that it could remain in the environment. After looking it up, I was suprised to find out it can. But fortunately winter temperatures can kill a lot of things.
