Marilyn is close to 75 I think... the other day she was describing how as a girl of 10 in Texas she used to take care of 1000 chickens every day - feed, water, clean the coops/runs, clean the eggs and sell them around the area, kill and de-feather the birds, etc...
I asked her if she "washed" the eggs. She said no. I said 'so you just wiped them with a dry cloth, or what?' and she said they used a little piece of sandpaper!
She walked door-to-door every few days with a little cart, selling the chickens that were slaughtered or that just happened to die.
