I've had backyard hens for almost 30 years and have never seen this. Currently we have 3 old hens, and recently introduced 3 pullets. Things have finally settled down and they're getting along. Three days ago, one of the old girls decided not to go back in the coop at night, and instead stayed under the porch. After the 1st night, she came out in the morning and behaved normally, but again went under the porch at night. She did not come out from under there all day yesterday. We thought she was either brooding, or creating a place to pass on. This morning I went to check on her only to find her gone from under the porch, and a hord of 14 EGGS!!! Please explain.
