Old hen can't stand on her own

Thanks to everyone that tried to help me. Just letting you know that Thelma, that was her name, passed away this evening. I'm still convinced that she was having strokes, she went peacefully. It's almost like she waited for me to get home from work to say goodbye and that it was ok for her to go. Sorry if that sounds sappy.

So sorry that you lost Thelma. Cornell in Ithaca in your state can perform a necropsy on her body to look for a cause of death, if you would like to find out. The body should be kept cold, but not frozen, and taken in or shipped in overnight. Here is a link with the phone numbers to contact them:

Thank you, but I already laid her to rest out next to Cinny, the other hen in the first pic. She seemed so peaceful that I want to just leave her that way.

Oh no! Poor Thelma, glad she had a good three years with you! Sounds to me like it was more of age catching up with her, I have yet to have a hen pass from age but if it was three years without laying she must’ve been decently old. I’ve only really lost pullets between 4-10 months, so I can’t be positive it was age but it’s good she had a good life with you! Rest In Peace Thelma
