We built our coop onto an exsisting barn that was on our property. So one inside wall of the coop wasan exterior wall of the old barn. Should there be any concern with the peeling paint that is now inside the coop and the chickens eating it. I’m thinking I’m going to need to sand it down some before the chickens go out in the coop.

Take some peeling pain and heft it in your hand. Lead paint is conspicuously heavier than modern paint. You'll be able to tell.

Lead paint is disastrously toxic to all living things. If you have it, you will need to put down something to collect the sanding dust and vacuuming up every dust particle is critical. You need to wear a dust mask for yourself. Lead in the bronchial tubes and lungs is no way to spend your medical expense money or your old age fighting that stuff in your respiratory system. Chickens will pick up particles for grit, and it does horrible things to them, too. Keep your chickens away from that peeling paint until you're very sure you have it ALL cleaned up.

Thank you! My husband or myself hadn’t even thought about the possibility of lead.

Yeah, you mentioned "old barn". Old barns are notorious for having peeling lead paint. Like I said, it will be very heavy compared to modern paint.
