Funky Chooks, I am a well known "Thread Killer" in these parts. All it takes is for me to post here and there is a good chance no one will post, let alone READ this thread ever again! LOL Just let this soak for a while and see how it completely dissolves....

I am always interested in amish and mennonite living. I find their live and clothing fascinating. We lived up in Ohio where we had lots of of Old Order Amish, mainly Shwartzentrubers. Now we live in Ft Knox and we have Amish and mennonites about thirty minutes down the road.. I used to go to Lehmans in Ohio . As with poultry , i asked one lady and she ordered hers from Meyer hatchery in a group order and then used an english driver to pick the order up from the hatchery . I also saw them in Rogers Ohio on fridays. Thats the day when they sell smallish livestock, poultry farm machinery at the auction and there is also a fleamarket.

Perhaps just re-word your first post useing the edit feature and ask your question again, I am guessing you want to know if someone is living close to the land and living a simple and a life like people did 50-80 years ago (if not longer ago).

The Amish deal a lot with this place where I'm at. I don't know who's buying and who's selling but you can see the breeds listed. I picked this up a couple of weeks ago when I was in there buying my daughter a used English saddle. Nice little country store.

Breeds listed are:Rhode Island Red, Barred Rock, Black Australop, New Hampshire Reds, Silver Laced or Gold Laced Wyandotte, Black Jersey Giant, Buff Orphington, Shaver Black Sex Link, Amber Link, Light Brahmas.

I tried to get it to post vertically, sorry.

I am not Amish nor Mennonite, but we live a similar lifestyle. I also have friends that are Amish. Ask away, I will see if I can help you.

We do have electric, computers, phones, and cars, but no TV, we don't go to amusement parks, bars, dancing, or to the movies.

We used to buy fresh milk and eggs from a young Amish couple in Ashland Ohio they used brown Swiss and Holstein cows for milk and new Hampshire and rhode island reds for eggs and meat Belgian draft horses for field work and standard Breds for the family buggy hope this helps
