We have well water and put a little clorox in the water to rid it primarily of mosquitos and their eggs, especially in the Spring/Summer.
The cork and copper........I use a ring and a string. Attach the ring and hold the string about 2 inches above the back/head area of the chicken. I was taught how to do this. It's actually in a sexing book for chickens. No one knows why it works. I think it's probably as accurate as some other measures anyway. I have found, the younger the chicken, the longer it takes for the ring to start swinging and I have seen some that didn't work at all. Not everyone can do this. If you can, it actually works on dogs (just something for you to try since you already know their sex!) Back-and-forth is male. Circular is female. What the heck, no one way is 100% without being invasive. Have fun trying!
