Old wood stove for chicken coop?

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan :D

Are you thinking of using it in a chicken coop? It is likely not necessary to have heat, and seems very dangerous to have in flammable surroundings.

I'm not using in coop. Thought I would fix it up though and put in house for a conversation piece. I have found some info on it. It is a brooder stove that burns coal. Info on one similar says it can burn from 12-16 hrs. on how u set thermostat wafers. Any more info still would be appreciated.

Hi just got similar one myself. From all accounts I have found it to be just as any other wood stove only smaller, and more difficult to find pipe for. It will heat a small space and requires the same venting and installation as any other wood stove. I will be using mine in a shed that is next to my chicken coop...it will be heating people resting from sledding and working on small equipment etc for the chicken coop...not actually for the birds!!
