Old

I have a 8+ barred Rick hen. ... She has been with me a year and never produced eggs. ...
so- is this normal for an older bird.
Yes, it is pretty common for older hens to have egg laying issues. 8 qualifies as an older hen.

I'm not sure why she is trying to lay after a year, maybe the days getting longer. I have no idea how long that will last if she went a year without laying.

I'll leave suggestions up to others as I have no experience with a hen that age doing that. She's obviously a pet. I wish you and her good luck!

Started this morning on oyster shell, egg layer pellets. She did an egg without a shell again this morning.

I would do all flock with oyster shell on the side. Since shes older she probably doesnt need the layer feed. She will eat the oyster shell when needed.
Been feeding the flock oyster shell for many months as well as layer pellets.
