Hi, i currently have a mama that has one 6 day old baby and still sitting on eggs..i know there were all different stage eggs, im knew to this part and it wasnt planed, just kinda happened..anyway last night I noticed 1 egg had opened. There was a little bit of blood and the baby had went over and start pecking the opening..i checked it out and there was no movement, even when stimulated..sadly baby had passed..Is it safe to let eggs hatch with older chic present..or will baby hurt it? Im not sure if the other passed naturally or if the baby start pecking at it after hatching began and that's what killed it. Im not sure what I should do, is it safe to keep them together?

I'm surprised the hen is still brooding eggs. Normally hens leave the nest when the chicks start moving around; even if it is just one. I would not think it safe to leave a seven day old chick with hatching eggs. Consider candling those eggs that are left to determine viability. If there are eggs still alive, the best thing would be to remove the chick until the hatch is complete. Good luck.
