Older hen fluffed up and not eating

There are a number of other videos and threads about learning to tube feed if you need them. Sorry about losing the hen.
Thank you for your help, I appreciate learning how to do my best as a care taker
The knowledge shared here is helpful.
Maybe something else was wrong- the impacted gizzard -was the problem and nothing was getting in or out.

Can you contact your state vet lab to see about getting a necropsy on the one that is dying? They can take tissue samples and do testing for various diseases. Do you have a rooster or high roosts that could cause the limping? Sorry that you lost another. Here is the list of state vets:

We were talking about this as well.
And at this time since 2 are having issues we are taking precautions.
We have madison wi which will do this I believe.
Have you done this? Do you send the whole hen?

Yes, you send the whole bird. Be sure that you keep the carcass refrigerated and ship it that way. I'd call for specific instructions. When I had a necropsy done, I was fortunate that Clemson had a lab that was only a few miles from my house.
From reading your thread, I would suspect there is something wrong with the scratch you're giving them. I'd eliminate it altogether. Give them bread instead.

We give bread once in awhile.
It has been extremely cold here lately- my guess is the cold weather limited them in moving around and drinking enough water.
All other birds appear to be fine- I thought 2 were looking sluggish this morning but when I rechecked they were just fine.

Update hen died from impacted gizzard. Age 6 yrs old.
Cold snap, not drinking enough water and lack of activities- older hens not as active.
Both hens! All other hens are improved and fine. I have the other older hen in bay with a heat lamp and heated dog water bowl. I let her out when it gets warmer today. The Injured little hen is walking better! And other young hen is doing great.
I did say a little prayer too! Seems I got an answer! Positive things all around!
I did change my scratch last time- will go back to my usual.
Just incase that didnt help.
