~~Hi! Just wondering if anyone has ever had problems with their older chickens having scaly/rough looking legs? I am positive they do not have scaly leg mites. I have a few of my older birds that look like their legs appear to be really dry, I am noticing that it seems to be on the ones that are molting. I was planning on showing a few of these again next year. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this or have suggestions on what I could do to fix it?

My Red Star is an older bird, and has scales on his legs too.
It is perfectly normal to have them when they get older.

To make his legs look nice (and to make sure dirt does not get under them)

I take an old toothbrush and clean them gently. You said that your hens legs were dry, vaseline does the trick on my hens. Just rub it on after you have cleaned his legs.
I hope this helps!

Good luck on showing your chickens!
