Hello silkie owners!

I'm wondering if any of you could share your experiences on the OLDEST AGE that any of your silkies began llaying.

I have 3 silkie pullets that are almost 7-1/2 months now. None of them have started laying yet, and although I'm not in a hurry, because I've heard that it's better if they are fully mature before they start laying. I'm just wondering how much longer it might take, worst cast scenario, and how old before I should start to worry!

They were born in late January. They were on organic chick starter until 5 1/2 months, and have been on layer mash for two months. I'd be happy to know that they're just taking their time and gearing up, but want to make sure that nothing's wrong!

Thanks!

Alys

Mine started recently and I bought them as chicks in December so... that's 7 or 8 months. You shouldn't have to wait too much longer.

My silkies laid around round 8 months as well My roo crowed before my hens started to lay. Not much longer a little egg will be waiting for you soon

Well this is depressing! I have a handful of Silkies around 16 weeks old, and I was just SURE I'd have them laying in another month. Oh well!

Don't despair! I know that many of them DO lay sooner. But they say not to be impatient, because the LATER they begin laying, the longer and more consistently they will lay....

Got our first egg from an 8 month old this last Sunday. We were surprised by how long it was to get one and also thought that it would be sooner. We have a slightly younger one at 7 months old that hasn't started laying yet.
You should be seeing them start soon.
