I have this pretty little chick I purchased as an olive egger. It’s about 4 weeks old. I’m thinking it may be a cockerel. My question is IF it is a cockerel, what is the purpose of keeping an olive egger roo? Can you use it to produce more olive egger chicks? I don’t really understand the genetics involved, and I’m unsure of the parentage. I was told mine was from a cream Legbar/olive egger breeding but it does have lightly feathered legs. How do I even know if (he) would pass along the olive egg gene?

I would imagine the chicks would have a certain percentage chance of being able to lay some shade of pale green.
The light feathering on the legs almost confirms he's an olive Egger, since a dark egg layer & a brown egg layer are used to create them. An example would be Cream Legbar & Marans. Marans (dark egg layer) have light shank feathering.

And yes, that's a little cockerel.
