Just to make sure in on the right page, a brown layer and a blue layer crossed are olive correct? I saw a post that said only a brown gene rooster over a blue hen will produce olive. I tried to find info in search but this exact comment did not show.

Thank you

"olive eggers" are dark brown layers crossed with blue layers (eg Marans x Ameraucana), it doesn't matter which way it goes, a rooster with dark brown genetics over a blue gene hen will give you olive just as a blue gene rooster over a dark laying hen will

Some say a brown gene rooster over blue gene hen makes for better olive but that really depends on how dark that roosters line is. a lighter brown line rooster over a blue gene hen will just give a green egg that wouldn't be considered "olive"

I breed olive Eggers and I use an Ameraucana rooster over French copper maran hens.
I feel like I get a good olive color... my first generation is the darker shade and I had a few that were bred back to an Ameraucana because I don't have a maran rooster yet and they are just a touch lighter. If you breed the F1 back to a roo with dark egg genetics its supposed to darken the olive color.
(One picture is without the flash and the other picture is with... the flash washes out the color)
