Olive egger laying

Some birds, especially those that lay daily, will not always lay at the same time of day.
I hope this is true for my RIR and buff orp. They lay so early that going out two hours after I let everyone out of the coop confuses them. So far they seem to lay around the same time everyday. But they’re new layers so I’m sure it’ll change with time.

I try to monitor mine just as closely. Now anyway. My buff orp is laying around 830am and if I leave it out there it gets frozen. My RIR lays a half hour later than her. But my OEs are laying around 5pm. And I’m not sure who is laying. I have 3 OEs and I thought only one was laying. But maybe two are and are on opposite days. It’s hard to catch the OEs in the nest box when it’s that late and everyone, the chickens that is, is getting ready for bed. My OEs are six months and expect they’ll even out as they go. Or they won’t. It’s okay either way. Just really different from my RIR and buff orp.

5pm!! That's a record! I think we had one laid as late as 4:30pm, and that's when she just started laying.

We installed a baby monitor so we can see if someone is in the nesting box, and it becomes quite fun to "spy" on them! We are also lucky that each of them has a distinct signature color/shape/size. So I can always tell whose egg that's there! We have two EE, and even they have different shades of blue and sizes.

They are also easily distracted - so I tried not to go into the run (connected to the coop) if someone is in the nesting box. Every once in a while, they are all in sync for early morning "homework". Yesterday for example, there was quite a traffic jam in nesting boxes. One box had two birds in there, one sat sideway in the back!

That confuses me :D
Sorry. I’m no good with words. When I go out to the run they think it’s time to free range, or I have snacks. But not at 9am when I have other things to do. I let them out of their coop into the run at 650am. So usually that’s the last they see of me until afternoon.

I want to get a camera for the nest boxes. But I’m not sure how I would run the wires. I wish there were good ones that ran on batteries and didn’t need to be plugged in.
So far I think only one of my OEs is laying. The eggs I have gotten from them look the same anyway. I can’t wait to see what the other eggs look like. And I can finally tell the RIR(honey) and buff orps(buttercup) eggs apart. But only because Buttercup lays hers first. I thought Honey would have the bigger eggs but it turns out Buttercup does. I haven’t seen these two in the box at the same time yet, the OE uses a different box, but I’m sure at some point they will try.

They should have no problem going back to the nest to lay when they are ready.
