Olive Eggers

@LadiesAndJane

In your experience does one of these combinations end up laying darker eggs than the other??

A. Cream Legbar roo over dark brown egg layers (marans/welsummer)
B. Marans roo (from dark egg) over Cream Legbar hens

??????
Thanks

Sorry I don’t know! Traditionally the Marans is the roo so that the daughters can be bred back to him to get second generation (F2) with the darker olive green eggs.😊

This is really the only one I’m left guessing on. I’m pretty sure he’s a he because he’s the instigator among the other two I’m pretty sure are boys. They will be 10 weeks tomorrow. I think I see pointed feathers on him but not too sure.

He? is gorgeous! 🥰 Looks likely. Do you have a good comb photo? Saddles should come in after about 12-14 weeks of age, then you will know for sure.

I hope this helps. It’s the best I could do since they don’t like my phone pointed at them. And I almost got a better one but then my EE got his butt in the way. I did my math wrong. He’s going to be 11 weeks.

Looks female so far! Wait for those saddles. The hackles do not look real pointy to me, I think it may be an illusion because of the lacing. 😊

This is the one I’m hoping is a female. The patterning is so pretty. But it’s hard for me to tell with the black comb. I’m hoping you’re right though. 🤞

Updated pix of the mystery one. I think I see the pointed feathers now but I also think I’m looking for them everywhere on him(?). Dreading them. He’s still not crowing but my bantam stopped crowing when I put him outside with my EE roo who crows all the time. He’s 12 weeks now.
