OMG... I am getting three of these for breeder coops.

That's a nice coop with smaller footprint. I just wonder if you really need four nest boxes. Maybe 2 would be enough. Chickens can have more space too without the extra nest boxes. How many chickens do you plan to have in it? A breeding trio? If 2 hens, one nest box would be enough. The coop looks like it can take maximum five chickens. 4 hens - 2 nests would be enough, I think.

I can tell you are an enthusiast, and I have to admit that learning everything you can about chickens is addictive. Good luck in you adventure....!

I grow a wheat grass for my indoor cats. Most pet stores, WalMart, etc, sell the seeds in the pet department. The root structure is not real deep; it grows quickly. Seems like you could get several large clay saucers and grow the grass in them, and then just rotate them through the run as the chickens eat it. You could even just dump the pad of grass in and let the chooks have at it, and start some more in the saucer. Radishes are another thing that sprouts very quickly, although I don't know whether or not chickens would eat radish sprouts.

Oh no, that was one of my initial changes! I actually just wanted one nest box but because of the way they are attached Robert thought two would be more structurally sound. I plan on having breeding trios in them of a smaller type bird but not bantam. They also will not live exclusively in the breeding pens. Just when I want them to have conjugal visits! I love my birds to much to lock them in cages. But, I am new to breeding so I have a lot to learn, obviously!

Thanks for your comment.

I checked out your BYC page. Nice lookin' bunch! Your coops are great and really look well built and solid. I just have one question. What is the purpose of the two roosts extending to the outside? Like the two the adorable little girl is standing between. Do you use those to move the coop? Inquiring minds want to know!

Yes, they are handles so we can move them. I put them on all our moveable coops. The chickens use them for roosts as well. My daughter was eating an apple and loves her picture taken. Thanks for lookin' Will
