OMG...I HATE collection agencies.

Capital One sucks.

I paid the balance in full, cut the card into pieces, mailed them the shredded card (as per our contract) and closed the account before I moved to SA. When I returned a couple of years later I was in collections for almost $700. They had slipped in a some 2 or 3 dollar fee which left the account open then I started getting late fees and interest charges on the fees. I was furious. After trying to speak humanly to a few people and realizing they were not human, I did nothing else. It has finally gone off my credit report.

My DD owes them $16.00 and they are taking her to court over it.she is on disability and been fighing this for several years.Capitol one is the worst of the worst. bank of america i think follows pretty close. Most credit unions are great and they have credit and debit cards. GOOD LUCK marrie

Simply let them call to their hearts content. If you happen to answer the phone and they have you in contact, simply tell them that you will be unable to speak with them about your account. Politely say goodbye and hang up.

Do not let them annoy you, this is how they get you to pay up, even if you have paid in full. Remember, they want their money for collecting also. If they get rude and belittle you tell them to "sod off" and again politely say goodbye and hang up.

They will eventually stop, they always do.

Chase sucks too. We got a chase card(s) at a fun park, because my wife wanted the "cute bag" that was free if you filled out the form. In 6 months, it was compromised not once, but twice. No protection what so ever. I think they POSTED the card number to the highest bidder. (kidding) But TWICE it was whacked, first time the reissued the card(s) and it happened again, that's when I dumped them. Chase / Chase Manhatten bank is owned by Rockefeller. He don't need my money any way,,,,,,,,,,,,,,We stick local. Credit Unions.

^ Yup, dealt with Chase too.

Anyone else remember a time when if there was no money in your checking then a check or debit was declined?

I remember those days... yet that's not the way now... I don't use checks, precisely because they take too long.
But, when I use a card I expect it to decline if there's something wrong.
Evidently that's just not the way it is anymore.

Used to banks made their money by loaning out (deposited by other customers) cash for homes, cars, etc. The interest and fees earned on those loans made the banks rich, so they didn't have to charge insane fees to the people who keep their bank in the black. Now that's not enough.

As we are. Hubby's check is written on Fridays, he cashes it at his employer's bank, then I deposit it into Chase. Then I transfer what's needed to USAA. Since our budget is so tight we can't afford to deposit the check and wait days for it to clear. I'm planning in February, when our tax return is DD'd to change that. With that buffer in place we can use the new digital pic depositing thingie that USAA is doing and can afford the wait. And we'll finally be done with that stinking Chase for good. Buggers.

We had a nasty gram from a collections agency for a bill from a cosmetic surgeon that was 300 miles away we had never seen or heard of before. I called the collection agency because because the letter didn't include the information on who the party was that they were collecting for. The guy was a jerk even tho I told him I just needed to find out who it was so we could clear up the fact that they contacted the wrong person. Called the dr's office and told them what happened. The patient they saw was 30 years older than my hubby and of a different ethnicity. Patients address was different and a partial SS number was as well. The dr's office apologized and contacted the collections company who only sent us a letter out because the first and last name were the same. Good grief.

Do a web search of the collection agency's name. If you don't have a name, search using the phone number. If you can find a mailing address, send them a cease and desist letter. Tell them in witing that if they do not cease and desist all contact with you, legal action will be taken. My son had a similar experience. He paid his debt, but the collections people were still collecting. He doesn't live with us, but they found our phone number and were calling 2 or three times a day. The letter worked.
