OMG I want one!

Quote:
To be fair, there are poor breeders for everything. Dogs, cats, horses, goats, pigs, hamsters.... always have been, always will be. There will be those who breed for better animals, and those who breed as many animals as they can for money. Same goes for owners... there are those who say "Oh, it's exotic! I want it!" And those who actually consider the needs/etc of the animal before the purchase/rescue.

I breed hedgehogs. I've had my fair share of poorly bred hogs, and well bred hogs. But in the end, my hedgehogs have been much more loving and better pets than any hamster or guinea pig I had. And I had a lot of them as a little kid. I was bit many, many times by those animals - and in my roughly 5 years of having hedgehogs, I have never once been bitten. Even the poorly bred/socialized hedgehogs. They are not hamsters, they are not rats or gerbils. I was aware of the needs, and I take care of my babies.... doesn't mean they don't make good pets, just because they were recently domesticated.

ETA: How can you resist this face?!

I don't personally agree with the domestication of the foxes, or savannah cats/etc. To me, those are larger carnivores that shouldn't be messed with. But I suppose it's human nature to conquer, tame, and own all that he sees fit. (Still doesn't make it right).

realistically, with all the lovely dogs and cats being exterminated in pounds and shelters id rather see them homed and a lot less of these exotic pets that people cant handle or get bored with. Ive seen pot-bellied pigs, rabbits, geese, and once a cougar at the pound. Its fun to fantasize about tho! Mini-rhino! Wombat! Tiny white-tailed deer! Q.
