OMG is my duckling shrink wrapped???

With him being a breach, it looks like the end with the air sack (which is where his butt was) had totally dried out. I looked further and see his yolk was also not absorbed into his body. Does this mean had I pulled the shell off to get the dry membrane off, that the yolk not being in his body still would have killed him? I am not EVER planning on trying it again. I only tried because my duck and roo were killed and I was hoping for the last of my roo babies and put in a duck egg also. I am so damn depressed right now... Things were going so well before the incubator broke. He was so active in his shell. He would rock it back and forth when I would quack to him... Trying to make an emergency incubator just did not work out.

It is hard, but it sounds like he wasn't quite ready and with him being breech that made it even more difficult. Don't beat yourself up over it. You did the best you could with what you had. I am so sorry for your loss. Some people LOVE hatching and although it can be fun it is also very stressful (at least for me). :hugs

My first two chicken eggs I had in the incubator with him (from my deceased rooster) never hatched. I had one more hen egg that was left that I put in the there nearly halfway into incubation of my other hen eggs.and if have kept turning it and treating it like a fertile egg. It was laid almost a month after my roo died so I was expecting no development but i have turned it and kept heat up.... Now I see it IS FERTILE and DEVELOPING. Now instead of being happy...I am nervous about going thru another nightmare hatching. I was all prepared to go out and buy an already grown rooster instead of looking for a duckling companion... now all is on hold. I may need to find a chick companion. But...never count your chicks (or ducks) before they hatch.
