OMG it is now TOMORROW!!!!!!!!! Low quality pics p. 17

My husband wants me to eventually show some chickens. I know it can be done but I would be a nervous wreck!!!!!

I keep telling him we will just see what happens if we ever get something of show quality.

I have to leave in a bit and will be gone for several hours so the poor eggies can get a break from me talking to them!!!! LOL

My birds are far from Show Quality, at least in my eyes, but as I understand it a small county fair is the best place to start and learn. 4 of the ones I took are Hatchery Birds (Larry, Barney, Lucy & Ricky) The Buffs are Homegrown and nice but young yet and don't compare to the other Buffs I saw there. Buster and Uno , my 2 bantams (Buster is a BBR Phoenix and Uno a White Cochin) are not near Show Quality although Buster is not horrible.
I simply want to learn and hear what advice the judge has too.

I have 10 tickets for a nice cabinet bator, the drawing is in November, going to try and get hubby to build one like it this fall as he promised..... of course that is after he builds more coops......

I want to show next year, too, at our very tiny state fair.

I'm nervous, though... really not sure what to do, but I figure I have a year to figure it out. The boys are going to enroll in 4-H this Fall, so maybe they can teach me.

I'll be showing in the "open class". Can't wait.

That is what i did was the Open Show. I didn't even wash Uno's dirty little feet feathers.
I did put some baby oil gel on their wattles and combs (except the Buffs, they were freaked out enough by all the goings on)

You can wash them, which I had planned to do with Uno, Larry and Barney as Uno is all white and Larry & Barney have light feathers, but saturday I worked all day, then Sunday we worked on the coop and I had to feed a friends horses, so I didn't really have time to bathe them.

This will be a new experience... bathing silkies...

I can just see it now... foam and fur everywhere!!!

I don't want to show here. But I do want to provide QUALITY birds to the local 4-H kids.

I wonder if they look like drowned rats when wet

I think for most one day and local shows you can get away without washing unless they are extra dirty.

I think showing would be interesting too, though I have absolutely NO idea how to go about it!

Here's hoping your hatch goes GREAT!
