OMG- my broody Frizzle Buffy's eggs are hatching! (Pics added)

That 2nd pic is the NN baby. I'll get more pics soon. I saw another egg pipped with a hole in the side of it when Buffy stood up. So hopefully tomorrow on Mother's Day, more babies will hatch! Today was my 4th son's 15th birthday, so these babies are for him. Any more who hatch tomorrow will be for me! (hee hee- they are all mine anyways!)

My Buff Orphington just had five little chicks also.

I checked under her earlier today and there were still just those 2 chicks. I saw an egg that looks cracked and soft though, so I pulled that one out to check. It had most of the shell gone but the membrane was still around the chick and the chick had died. I don't know what happened or why...too sad though.
I'll check back under her in a while to see what's going on. I don't want her to get up with these 2 chicks and leave the eggs to get cold. If she starts to do that, I'll grab the chicks and put them in my brooder box of other baby chicks. I hope I don't have to do that though. I want her to raise them herself...

ETA: another smushed dried out dead baby chick still in the egg...mostly just membrane and broken smushed shell...what's up? the 2 day olds look great still and she was so mad to have been moved, she exploded a bomb of poop all over my DH and me. Talk about stinky!

thanks! So far, I haven't bothered her anymore...she's still sitting on eggs and her 2 babies peek out sometimes when we are looking. I haven't touched her again though. I'm starting to wonder if those other eggs will even hatch now. Either way, these babies are adorable!

Chickenlisa,

The ones that had the membrane but died, was the membrane hardened? If so, it could have been that they dried out. I had a couple that did the same thing. Good luck with the rest of your hatch!
