OMG my chickens ATE Mice, HELP!!!!

I was reading this thread, sorry, just had to put it out there. I dont believe in evolution... im a solid christian and I went a museum on it. I do know they decended from the red jungle fowl though. I believe in creatioan and adaptation to an environment, most christians dont think this way, but thats how I was taught. My church is amazing, and it isnt one of those boring services, for bible school... they toilet papered kids!

I agree with you 100% :)

Of the 4 coops, 3 love to play steal away. They all take turns ranging each day to keep the breeds separate. The ones left in their runs sometimes find a mice, a problem that makes my skin crawl! Well one day I was slightly bored after feeding scraps and noticed the Aussie coop had a LOT of activity going on. I walked around to find 12 of them playing steal away with a mouse. My girls are very serious about their food. I KNOW that mouse tried to get their food. I'm telling you it looked like a football game going on. I turned the feed bucket upside down and took my phone out and shot pictures and videos. I actually cheered them on.
Now the rains have come and the mice are invading even more. We're putting glue traps to help keep population under control under the roost house where they can't get, but other than that.....its chicken football season.
They keep the insects down, why not rodents?

Could you post a video for this?? would be best to put it on youtube.

I was out in the garden this morning getting some of the last few things out of it, and moving my portable chicken pen fence around to that now open section of garden up so that the girls can rototill it all up for us. During that process here the girls found a mouse and made him play a game of mouse football. Mouse didn't like that game, found it to be way too rough. Last I saw of him, his head was ripped off and my black sex links were up by 2 touchdowns on my white hens.

It's yet to happen with a mouse (give it time) but when I'm gardening and I find a lizard I toss it to my girls (much to my 5yo's dismay). They LOVE it! The 5yo will get over it. We have a talk about how chickens are predators and lizards are part of their prey.

I found one of our hens with with a frog earlier this summer. The eating of the frog didn't bother me so much as the fact she was tossing it in the air like an Orca with a seal. Poor Kermit was doing cartwheels through the air. But, c'est la vie! Survival of the fittest in that run!

fun for the chicken, but not so fun for the victim.

i bought a bb gun to keep the wild birds out of the feed in the coops.short n sweet,i only had to shoot one little bird in the coop with the hens in there.they are all over them birds now, rarlly see them in there now.when one comes in the run the girls are chasing it like they do with the flies.
