I have WHAT in my yard? :

OK DH brought home chickens and I learned what I could AFTER we got them.

Now, he says he wants to bring home duck eggs in the spring! Ack!

What kind of housing will ducks need?? We've got lots of space, but no pond.

my scovies dont have a pond either. And until fall they only had a piece of siding wedged between the fence and a AC unit as shelter. And they were happy . All they need is a doghouse(or a small shed if you have lots of them) to get out of the foulest weather food and water. Those polyhuts for calf, pigs and goats work really well too. Oh and like most folks mine have their wings clipped.​

I find my male runner ducks are more friendly than my female. My Welsh Harlequin who was not hand raised is very friendly and curious but absolutely doesn't want to ever be picked up. I wonder what she would have been like had she been hand raised.

You might want to start researching different breeds of ducks as they are all different. Most domestic ducks can't fly, but some do. Some are more skittish than others but most will be friendly if raised by hand. There are huge differences in the amount of noise they might make. Some are better camaflaged (sp?) which protects them from predators like Khaki Campbells or Chocolate Runners.

I know some people seem to do OK leaveing their ducks out at night, but most lock them up to protect them. They need a house that raccoons can't open up, and has a floor that can't be dug into.

I have too skittish 4 week old pekins I hatched from egg. I'm sure as they get older they will get friendlier. Right now they own my bathroom until they feather out and move to the Duck house by the pond.

They are extremely playful and will eat out of my daughter's hand... but then swing away quickly. The dog likes to lick their faces and they like to run and hide under the dog when they are out of the tub. Its quite a funny scene.

They'll be outside soon, and then all this brooder / tub / bathroom floor cleaning DAILY will be worth it!!!!
