Me too Diva. Well, the lady just dropped her off! Jr. Is her name she seems in good shape. Looks and feels all around healthy. I vaccinated her already. The lady said she is a mutt. Friendly and calm. She will make a nice addition.

She is so pretty! It is hard to see in the picture, but I think that may be scaly leg starting on her right leg?? If the scales are lifted a bit, you can dip them in mineral oil (or veg oil) for a couple of weeks daily or every other day and that should smother the mites.

I am not sure I am actually seeing lifted scales in the pic though...it is hard to see her legs closely.

Chickens redeemer, I looked her over really well and don't see a thing for mites, lice ect . I will check out her legs again. Little oil couldn't hurt anyway !
With scaly leg mites (I have dealt with them several times) all you will see are lifted scales. You won't see bugs.

So dip daily or so for at least 2 weeks (I have had to dip longer than this). Two weeks is required for the life cycle of the mites. They will die if you do it 2 weeks. So, then you will see the scales go back down!!

Some use vaseline, but I tried bag balm and I think I didn't get it everywhere and so it didn't work as fast as mineral oil for me. If you have a whole flock to do I have read you can put a pan of mineral oil in front of the pop door so they walk through it LOL.
