OMG OMG OMG I DID IT..** PICS ADDED ** UPDATE

Ok I took a pic of the ducks I am hoping to hatch eggs from

the black one is Ebony - that's the momma
the white one is Afflac - one of the males
the pompom head one is Frodoe - he is the main breeder so I am thinking most of the babies will be his and Ebony's
this was taken this morning

so who knows what the babies will look like ( if they hatch )
my bator lost some heat in the night when I got up this morning it was reading only 95.3 - I hope that will not hurt the babies I bumped the temp up some so hopefully I can get it to warm back up.
Do Little Giants loss heat alot during the night ??

well Ebony took the night off no eggs - so looks like we are going with 5 - this morning I turned them for the first time today - at 2:30 it will make 24 hrs for the first eggs to be in there - one day down and 24 or so more to go - I dont know how I am going to make it till - I know these eggs are going to hatch or not - I will candle them on about day 14 --

Ok day one was over at 2:30 today - so far so good temps seem to be holding they are kinda low first thing in the morning so I just give a little bump to the bator, humidity is still staying low - How important is the humidity?
I turned the eggs at noon for the second time they will get turned one more time before bed.
I am starting to feel better about this, I think I might be able to do this !!!

You will do fine Julie! Those should be some cute babies. Now I have a question (knowing little about chickens and nothing about ducks) How do you know the boy ducks are boys...other than the fact that they don't lay eggs...

Frodoe is beautiful.

well I first starting to think Frodoe was a boy when he grabbed one of the chickens and tried to ummm ...well you know

but after doing alot of reading I finally figured it out by looking at the tail feathers on males they curl and on females they are short and straight - and the female is ALOT louder than the boys are - other than that I would not have a clue as how to tell

Frodoe is handsome he has changed colors 4 times now - started out as army green when he was a tiny baby

well here is a pic of the bator with my kids

Your ducks are soooo cute! I just love this site..........I learn something new everyday. (The reference of putting frig egg in there to help lonely egg) Good luck w/ your hatch.

Well out of the 5 eggs I set - 1 fresh laid and 4 from the frig - after candleing on day 11 - I have 2 little wigglies , 2 blood rings , 1 clear egg . so one of the frig babies is growing !!

they are getting so big I can really see alot of movement when I candle it is pretty cool. right now I am on day 12 - and I am dieing to see my little ones come out after the temp spike I had I thought for sure they were all goners but these two are hanging in there.

so 15 more days to go - and than I am going to clean the bator and set some chicken eggs from my banty roo and my standard size EE's - those should be little cuties LOL
