I hate craking fertile eggs, ahhhh,

last time , some of my hens went broody , I picked one of them up and she was holding an egg underneath her and the egg busted and a chick was wigling, it had to be like 10-14 days along or sominthing because it was moving....

If you collect eggs every day you don't have that worry. If you are letting a hen set eggs you should have her separate from your layers. This is the reason why.

Well the question is, was there any possible way for the other layers to get near the broody. My aunt did that once. We had a hen with a roo, and moved her back to the layer pen. A girl in there went broody, and we didnt know. We collected the eggs, and she cracked open THREE with chicks in them. It was pretty sad.

Okay, now this is going to bother me. I am going to have a rooster, not because I want fertile eggs, just cuz I want a roo.
Now I won't have to worry about finding something like that if I collect eggs every day, correct Miss Prissy? And if I find an egg somewhere other than where I normally collect them I should be suspicious and let my SO crack it for me?

Awwwwwwwwwwww ick. The only time I was ever involved in a close call like that was when I was about twelve. My mamaw cracked an egg into the skillet and there was something in there. She made sort of a disgusted sound and threw the egg away without letting me see it. LOL

I was so scarred by that that I will not have a rooster. NOW I know what she was hiding from me. (ARG Scald my eyes!)
