On Bedding and Cleaning

My nesting boxes are raised about 8" off the floor, so I just jam as much clean shavings in there as possible. Then as I remove soiled clumps, I just scoop out some clean bedding to freshen and increase what's already out there. 1/2 bale lasts about 2 weeks for 11 chickens.

and only need changed every couple months or so depending on the weather.

Curious why you would ever have to change them out at all?
