Actually cross posting as well as bumping is against the rules.

The only exception is in the Emergency section and even then we ask that you wait long enough for someone to see your post, find an answer and type it out. Like an hour or so.

As far as "shameless bumps", they are just as much work for us because it irritates enough people that we get multiple reports on just one bump.

Well, since I started visiting BYC I have been guilty of bumping once... and immediately was scolded by a mod. I was so embarrassed. Didn't realize it was a no-no. I haven't done it since.

However... I do understand why it's done. It's frustrating to not get an answer to a question and especially when you're a newbie. I posted a question this morning and never did get a response. It is no longer in the first nine pages of "recent posts"... instead on the second page of "unanswered posts". It wasn't urgent or an emergency thank goodness, and even though I've logged in numerous times today looking for someone's opinion to my posting... I just shrugged it off as another post that didn't get answered.

The main reason for a post not getting an answer right away is simply because the folks who have read the post do not have an answer for the questions asked. No one is being purposefully shunned, as some seem to think. If I don't have an answer, I just don't post to say I don't have an answer. And I miss alot of posts because of the fast pace of things. Bumping it back to the top doesn't make me have an answer, even if it is an emergency.

A couple weeks ago, one of mine went unanswered. No biggie. Happens on occasion. Doesn't mean anything.

If I didn't get a response to one of my questions, I would try using the search feature here.

Sometimes, that will give you even more information about your question than you would get after waiting for someone to answer.
