On haggling... A small rant about being "Nickel and Dimed."

We have a guy that buys chickens from us all the time No matter what price I ask he always tries to get a lower price. I learned that the first two times he bought from us. Now if I want 8.oo a bird I tell him 10.00 He feels hes getting a deaL And I get the price I wanted all along. This way I don't loose a customer and hes happy to have gotten such a deal LOL

Some of the people on Craigslist make me afraid to go outside. They seem to get their logic and manners from another planet.

My favourite are the people who want you to deliver a free item to them.

My husband is the nicest guy ever and gets taken advantage of like this all the time. I don't. So now whenever he is going to sell something or negotiate something he makes sure I am there too. It works well, except for the fact that some of them are learning to come by when I am not home!

that is not MY issue as the seller. that is his issue as the buyer.

now, if that same customer was buying in quantity, that is a whole other story. of course i would work something out with them as a thank you to them for a nice purchase. or if they were a repeat customer etc.

but two chicks??? um, i think not. this is not a clearance center.

We had a horse advertised, and a lunatic woman wanted to work out a payment plan before she'd even seen it. It wasn't even an expensive horse. We gave her a wide berth.

Then there was the Satanist that wanted my free goat

I'm so glad I searched for her MySpace page.

No, she really wanted to give us $50 a month until the end of eternity

How she thought she was going to feed the horse was another matter.

Before we moved, we had a yard sale.

We had a pile of about 100 landscaping bricks that cost about $5 each.
We were asking $1 each.

Some "person" came up and told me that "that guy" (had no idea who it was, DH wasn't home) said he could have them all plus the ones we used in the yard landscaping for $25. About 200 bricks total)

I stared at him like he was an alien and then he said "Hello....The MAN of the house said...."

I interrupted him and said "No. I own the house, they are my bricks. "

He said if he didn't get that price, the deal was off.
I told him to have a nice time at Home Depot spending $1000.

Then he started in again, getting in my face and I told him to back off and that I had geese and a M-I-L from you-know-where, and no 2-bit little bully was going to intimidate ME.

He left and I sold the bricks later for $1 each to someone else.

I have been in a position to say "no, the deal's off" & it's really empowering.

I have also been in the shoes of "nickled & dimed". I have dealt with difficult people when I REALLY NEEDED the money. It made me feel anger & RAGE to suck it up and play nice to a person who is being mean. It is tough.
