On another thread, someone suggested worming chickens three times a year.

Is this normal practice? I thought you would see the worms in their feces, and then treated.

I'm fairly new to chickens, so I am pretty clueless, and had put worming in the catagory of "as needed".

So, do you worm regardless of symptoms or lack thereof?

I am really big on preventative medicine so as not to stress the birds. I take a fresh flock fecal to the avian veterinarian ( we have a specialist who treats chickens

) and if its negative then do nothing. The veterinarian recommends to do this in spring and fall in my area (Oregon).

I live in northern NV, very dry here, so I only do it if I suspect, then take a suspicious sample to the vet, and receive a positive ID of a parasite.

You don't usually see worms in the feces from what I've read -- have to do a fecal to tell --
