I currently feed my girls on layers pellets very standered and boring its a complete food and I do give my girls left over ve, fruit and they free range when I am home.

I want to create a food that is natural and has variety I know the negatives to such a dish but I think I could manage it.
Whats a natural food for hens?
What foods would make up their main diet if I was to go natural?

I give my chickens cracked corn and whatever weeds I have handy that I know is not poisonous. Also whatever greens we get from the veggie garden like cabbage family and spinach. They get a big bunch of greens 3 times a day. Occasionally they'll get some bread and kitchen scraps as treats. I do grow corn for them as well, but I have to many hens to grow all their food for the year in one crop. My chickens are healthy, the chicks grow well and I get plenty eggs. I've had very little problems with disease.
In their natural environment chickens would look for seeds/grains, greens and bugs. I've watched my flock free range before we moved and they know which plants are food and which isn't. Their instinct is amazing.
