Once and for all Coon Deterrents PLEASE

Night before last, I lost 7 one-month-old ducklings to the f-ers. They didn't kill them for the food, they didn't eat them. They just bit the heads and necks. I mean, with foxes, coyotes, etc, at least they are eating or taking food back to mates. These baztards just killed because they could. But I'll get them. SSS.
I'm so sorry to hear about your duck. :hugs

Unless you know for certain it was coons, a bunch of dead birds left with bites to the head and neck is also the signature move of a weasel.

On the other hand, some suggest that ma and pa coons also teach the young'ns to hunt and kill this way. Kill a bunch of birds and let em lay. Practice makes perfect?

Thanks. :hugs
And thanks for confirming marshmallows. Hubby said that was a new one he just heard, so I'll pick some up on my way home. I had cat food in the traps last night, they turned one over and ignored the other. Cinder block will be added too. :highfive:

Recorded them on my security camera, so I'm sure. But good point anyway.

"Dog-proof" racoon traps are Very selective and when set properly will mostly catch raccoons, with the occasional opossum or feral cat.

Once caught, raccoons can be dispatched with quiet .22 ammo. This CCI Quiet Segmented ammo is deadly at close range and quieter than most pellet rifles. Anybody should be able to get off 1 or 2 rounds of quiet ammo without raising any suspicions.

Can that be a skunks method too? I moved the cull roosters to our barn last year for one night until we moved things to accommodate them in the closed shop and two got hit. One was killed and left and the other was bitten along the neck and left. Both birds were roosting close to the ground. Everything roosting high wasn't touched so we assumed skunk.

With the fox hits we've had there may be feathers but all birds are gone. Then a carcass shows up in a day or two. I've also seen them playing with a hen's body. :hmm

I am so glad that I'm friends with a local licensed trapper that can legally relocate because there is no way in hell I can kill anything, especially in the manner some describe. I take spiders outside for crying out loud....

I've had skunks turn them over. Caught one doing it about 5am. :barnie It's frustrating.

I didn't know there was "quiet ammo." It doesn't matter where we live (very rural) but that's good to know.
