Once upon a time at Circle L Stables.....

Once upon a time there was a little farm called Circle L Stables. In its early years the main focus of the stables was on the horses that came to the farm to recover from some pretty bad lives before moving on to their new forever homes. They had some pretty interesting stories but horses are not the only ones to call Circle L their home.

You see, when the humans moved to a new barn they were adopted by a very special man. He did not have a name when he adopted the humans but they decided to call him Bob and Bob was a big beautiful Rhode Island Red Rooster. Bob's old humans had moved on without him but he was happy to take in the new humans even if they knew nothing about chickens.

Over time the humans decided Bob needed friends and eventually he got a male Swedish Black duck as a companion and the two became inseperable! Life went on for a while until the humans one day brought home a little black cooper maran. Her name was Sue and she had lived a hard life and had to spend several weeks recovering before she could join the boys but eventually she did and they became a happy family of three.

That next spring Sue became known as Mama Sue! Bob was a proud father to be sure though he will admit to sneaking off with his duck friend, Guapo, to escape the pressures of raising children.

Eventually the humans had to leave but unlike Bob's old humans they loaded him and the others up and took the whole family to the new farm! Here the family had even more space to run around and Bob became a dad again! Eventually the family became so big it was hard to keep track of everyone but the humans named as many as they could and tried to be able to tell them apart but Bob didn't blame them for mistaking them every now and then!

Cas, Bob's Oldest Son

Stephano, One of Bob's older daughters.

Two of his daughters taking shelter from the heat under the trees.

Another of Bob's Sons.

The Daughters learned quickly that the humans kept food inside and would come out to feed them if they crowded the porch.

Times were good but they would not last. Sadly a stray dog managed to get on the property and not only did Bob lose two of his daughters but he also lost his companion of 3 years, Guapo the Duck. It was a sad on the farm for all. Eventually everyone moved on from the heartache but Bob still missed his little quacking, waddling friend so the humans went and found him two new little ducklings and they grew to be known as Frekka and Charlie.

They helped a lot to soothe Bob and life returned to normal. There was even a new addition to the flock the humans had no clue about. She just showed up one day and none of the neighbor humans knew where she came from either. Bob didn't care where she came from as long as she could stay so she became known as Legs and joined Bob's family.

Only 3 short weeks after Legs joined them though tragedy struck again and Old Bob passed away. He was a very old man who lived a very happy life and his death was grieved by all the family, human and chicken alike. The hens were in chaos until Cas finally stood up and took up the mantle as head rooster and the family calmed down once more.

There are even new babies in the family! While no one knows if they are Bob's last children or Cas' first, they are adorable and welcome none-the-less!

The only hiccup the little flock has had was the arrival of Sp00n. No one knows where sp00n came from. He was found as a day old hatchling in the middle of the barn. There were no other chicks as the current babies were 2-4 weeks older then him and a vigorous search of the property found a single shell that Sp00n hatched from but no others and all of the hens, in the confusion, pecked at him and refused to accept the poor tyke! All the humans can think is that Frekka the egg stealing duck whisked away one of Legs' eggs and hid it away but abandoned the baby when it hatched as a chicken instead of a duck!

Luckily the human called Kyo is a sucker for cute little ones and she brought him inside away from the hens so he would not be injured. The plan was to let him grow up big enough to be reunited with the flock when the new coop and run is finished but he has managed to sucker his way into the Kyo-Human's heart and is convinced he will be an inside chicken. Afterall, how can he listen to music and play smash ant on the humans phone if he is outside??

Sp00n was an itty bitty adorable fluffball!

That likes to cuddle with his adopted brother, Lonoh.

Who grew into a pretty, sleek 2 1/2 week old trouble maker.

And he loves stealing Lonoh's food!

Lately, he's convinced he's a Dragon instead of a chicken. Sp00n the Dragon? Seems Legit.

Life goes on at Circle L Stables and with the new coop and run almost complete the humans are talking about expanding the flock and everyone is excited for new friends to join them but in the meantime stick around to hear about the adventures of the little family that could!

What a wonderful story. Albeit sad at times, it was heartwarming. Thank you for sharing it! Enjoy all your babies.

Rain has plagued the little family that could the past couple of days. First the rain came down so hard the little creek behind the barn rose high up and turned into a mini, raging river. The flock took shelter in the attic of the barn and in the tack room where the saddles on the high walls made for great roosting perches to keep dry on. After the rain ceased they only had a day to enjoy some sunlight and watch the water recede before the rain came again! Luckily it was not nearly as bad and the next day the sun came out and shined nice and bright for the little family and they celebrated with the humans, dogs, and horses in the nice weather!

Cas and Stephano going for a stroll in the sun.

All eyes were on the horses at feeding time! The horses dropping feed means the flock gets an after dinner treat!

The Kyo-Human read that chickens like watermelons so she decided to give it a try. After a few hesitant pecks the watermelon was devoured! Kyo-Human has made a note to buy a bigger melon next time.

Chuck Norris, the youngest rooster, enjoys some peace with his brothers distracted by the watermelon. Luckily he has the Kyo-Human wrapped around his little spur and she snuck a piece of melon down just for him and his broken beak.

After a long day of relishing in the sun the flock settles down in their favorite tree for the evening.

In the house things were mostly unaffected by the rain. Sp00n the Dragon-Chicken practiced sparring with Killi the Great.

First he sized his opponent up.....

Then he went in for the attack!

And when he fell off the dresser in the attack and the Kyo-Human laughed while she was helping him up on the bed....

...He decided to show her not to laugh at the Dragon!

But he could only keep the attack up for a little while before his tired himself out and settled down for a nap.

The Kyo-Human thanks you all for your nice comments and is glad you enjoyed hearing about the Bob Flock. Hopefully things will keep going good and we will have nothing but happy news like today to share!

Sorry it has been so long but a lot of things have been happening around the farm in the humans lives but they've been snapping pictures and have plenty of stories to share!

There was a lot of construction going on around the property and the curious flock followed the humans around, enjoying the tasty bugs that popped up whenever the humans moved something that has been siting around to long!

And then two of the roosters, Sam and Dean, found their new homes. Sam and two of the hens went to a lovely family who wanted to get a start into chicken keeping while Dean went to be the new head honcho at a flock that recently lost their rooster.

Farewell Sam! You were a worthy opponent in trying to catch you and fooled the humans for 3 days before you casually hopped into the catch cage!

Along with the good their was bad on the farm. One little hen got clever in hiding her nest from the humans and had them in the rafters of the barn. 6 were hatched. 1 fell to its death and was mourned by the family. Another was trapped in the rafters and rescued by the Kyo-Human. Mama hen would not take it back though so it went inside to grow up big enough to return to the flock one day. Mama hen took her 4 remaining babies into the barn tack room but unfortunately it already had an occupant in the form of a big old black snake who managed to steal two of the babies.

Since the humans could not encourage the mama hen to move the babies they had to take them away from her for their own safety. The mama hen was sad for a little while but she recovered quickly while the babies enjoyed the life of pleasure inside the human house!

Eli, the little one who was trapped in the rafters.

Mell, who loves to pose for the camera.

Duel of the fluffy type!

Mell, seriously, stop posing!

Cuddles after the duel.

The runt of the babies, ili the brave!

Dinner time!

And of course we cannot forget about Sp00n who is growing into his terrible 2's at 6 weeks old. He and Kyo-Human are very closely bonded but fight constantly as Sp00n's favorite passtime is sneaking up on Kyo when she's distracted and poking her in the eyeball! She's is both amused and annoyed at the fact that he then runs off and makes a sound that very closely resembles a laugh as she cries in pain.

'Stop taking my picture! I'm warning you!!'

'I'm serious Mama-Kyo! I will peck you!'

'You asked for it!!'

'Oh stop crying about your eye and play a video on your phone!'

Things have been crazy at the farm. With two roosters being rehomed the flock is learning how to live and what the pecking order is with Cas as the head rooster without his wingman, Dean, and Chuck Norris is learning what it feels like to be a second-rooster instead of at the bottom of the pack. He even has managed to court two of the hens to be his faithful ladies! Way to go Chuck, the broke beak rooster!

The inside babies are doing well after a very bad scare. Little Eli got sick and the Kyo-Human was johnny on the spot to ask the humans on BYC for help and the other humans pulled through for the furry babies! They advised the Kyo-Human into what medicine to give and little Eli is back to normal and dominating her sisters in their daily duels! Sp00n is growing fast as well and has discovered the joys of perching atop the table top fan as it spins back and forth.

The outside babies are growing up as well. Jet Li is still...well...a brat. S/He has been adopted by Mama Sue and seems to follow Cas around with a bad case of hero worship. Seem's to be working for him though as Cas helps him nick a few grapes from the hens during snack time! Of the 4 older babies the humans are 99% sure that SilverWing and BlackWing are both hens while GoldWing is still up in the air with a gender and they are 99% positive little RedWing is, in fact, a young cockrel which is very sad since that means he will have to be leaving the flock soon. But until the crow comes he is safe with his siblings!

Other than construction on the two coops the only other news is the great incubation experiment that the Kyo-Human is working on with the possibility of 6 potential babies joining the flock!

Sp00n growing up so pretty.

The big giveaway with RedWing being a cockrel. No hen we've ever bred has had blue and gold on their back.

Very pretty, early coloring though. Cas and Chuck took longer than 13 weeks to really get their colors coming through.

He's hard to catch and fights like mad but once you catch him he's content to perch on your arm and gets pets ^.^

Sorry not a lot of photo's but my phone's been kinda of wonky lately. More next time!

Oh you're so lucky. I love the mix of golds and blues he has but sadly I already have 2 roosters so he can't stay with us.
