I think both of these are pullets, but wanted to see if the board agrees. 8 weeks old.

First up, the Barnevelder:

For reference, here is the hatch mate just below the one in question, definitely a pullet:

Now on to the Black Copper Marans:

Thanks!

I don’t see any cockerels. what is the one with the crest? Do you have full body photos of that and the one you say is a cockerel?
Both are supposed to be Black Copper Marans, but they come from Ebay eggs, so who knows. I do not have a full body photo but can get one later. They are both almost all black with copper in their necks, and feathers on the legs. It is weird that the one does have a small crest, I've noticed that for weeks now.

Here is supposedly the flock they are from:

So I reached out to the Ebay seller to inquire of the possibility of my birds being Olive Eggers. Or at least the pullet. I was not looking for a refund, I was just trying to determine the possible heritage. The seller does have Olive Eggers with a BCM roo, but I got the idea that those should have been olive colored eggs.

After swapping some descriptions and photos, the seller thinks they might have an olive egger that lays dark chocolate eggs in their BCM coop, so now they need to try to determine which hen it is. Not sure what to say about that but I've never bred chickens.

The Ebay seller is giving me a refund because I ordered BCM eggs. Did not ask for it, but it's good they are giving good customer service after a mix-up.

Guess I'll found out in about 8-12 weeks what color eggs she lays.

You can peruse the genetics threads on here but my understanding is that the further you get from the parents with olive eggers, the greater your chance of getting brown egg layers instead of olive. So after the first generation you have a 50/50 chance of getting brown eggs then chicks from that generation are even more likely yo lay brown instead of olive eggs. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but it’s possible to get a dark brown egg layer out of olive egger parents.

I wonder if they used Crested Cream Legbars to make the Olive Eggers. That’s not the right way to word it but that would explain the crest. Very nice of them to refund you though!
