I noticed a black chick lying on her side, so I went out and looked and she had worms? I think? There was a HUGE one and several more. Now she is dead. I have never had chickens before. We just bought 24 from Tractor Supply Company a month ago. None of the others seem to be sick. What should I do? Did it have worms?

How old was it? Was it maybe aleady dead and you saw maggots? Or did you notice something in it's poo before? How had it been acting and eating? I guess more info.

By the way

It was alive earlier, though just laying there with this worm hanging out of it. I could see other worms as well, she was bleeding too. Everyone I talk to said they never heard of chicks with worms. She was about 1-2 months old....we've only had then about a month and they were teeny tiny when we bought them.

Could the "worms" have been the chick's intestines? The other chicks could have pecked the chick's vent and pulled it's intestines out, it would explain the bleeding and death. I have heard of that happening.

Hopefully someone else will chime in. Sorry about your chick.

My husband thought it was her intestines. I wonder why they would do that? Weird.
